The name was given because of its proximity to the Porte Saint-Denis. It is bounded in the south by the Boulevard Bonne Nouvelle and north by the Boulevard Magenta. It is bounded on the east by the Boulevard de Strasbourg and to the west by the Rue du Faubourg Poissonnière.
