The Museum of Decorative Arts is a large building that is located in Paris at 107 rue de Rivoli. The museum is a member of the private association UCAD or Central Union of Decorative Arts. The architect Gaston Redon modify the Marsan wing of the Louvre Palace to the opening of the museum May 29, 1905. As part of the Grand Louvre project and the final installation of the Museum of Fashion and Textiles, it was completely renovated in 1996. In 1999, the Museum of Advertising which was the work of architect Jean Nouvel joined the ensemble. Between 1996 and 1999, Marie-Claude Beaud was the director of the museums of decorative arts. She was succeeded by Beatrice Solomon from 2000.
Among the 150,000 objects the museum contains collections, only 6000 are presented to the public. Five departments classify these historical collections such as the Middle Ages Renaissance, the period between the seventeenth and eighteenth century, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modern-Contemporary. To the progression of the artistic production of decorative arts in all its aspects noted, the collections are also divided into five thematic departments such as graphic art, jewelry, toys, wallpaper and glasses. Since its inception, the museum has several donations and legacies which constitute the majority of its collections. The taste of the collectors is marked according to périodes.Le museum exhibits the works of sculptor Emmanuel Collin that was the youngest exhibitor in 1987 as well as the donation Jean Dubuffet. This symbol was a French artist of the twentieth century. He began his collection in 1942 and donated his 21 paintings, seven sculptures and 132 drawings to the museum in 1967. The collection marks the beginning of his career and the diversity of his work. It is found in a specific gallery of the museum.
Regarding painting, Museum of Decorative Arts has many paintings, works of various artists such as Alessandro Magnasco, Hubert Robert, Charles de La Fosse, Jan van Kessel, Paul Gauguin, Giandomenico Tiepolo, Jean Dupas, Bernardo Bellotto Jean Dubuffet ... These collections of paintings dating from the thirteenth to the twentieth century.
The museum has about 1200 jewelry on 4000 pieces held in gallery thereto. These wonders cover the period from antiquity to modern times. The production of jewelry from precious or semi-precious and raw materials are also visible in vitrines.Les creations Lucien Gaillard, Georges Fouquet stones, Vever house are exposed to represent the Art Nouveau. Jewellers of the Place Vendome, Cartier, Boucheron ... show their creations of Art Deco.
Gallery toys museum contains over 12,000 toys and games thanks to donations amateurs, collectors, industrial workshops and toys. Incorporated in 1905, the collection consists of toys and games dating from the nineteenth century until today.
