Old Montmartre, a company history and archeology allowed the museum opened its doors in 1960. A group of volunteers created this association in order to defend Montmartre, by its history and culture.
The story and all the political, artistic and festive life of the Butte are traced through the museum collection , consisting of more than three hundred paintings, drawings , photographs, posters, documents, porcelain as well as testimony . Temporary exhibitions are held mainly attributed to the works of artists who lived in Montmartre such as Auguste Renoir, Emile Bernard , Suzanne Valadon, Raoul Dufy, Maurice Utrillo, Pierre Reverdy , etc. . They are also dedicated to all those that have been created. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 18 pm . To visit the museum, the audio is provided in three languages, French , English and Spanish. Guided tours and group visits must be booked in advance. A gift shop offers visitors the opportunity to keep a souvenir of their visit to the museum.
