Story of the city of Albert
Albert is a charming French commune nestled in the department of the Somme, in the historical region of Picardy. The town gained official recognition in 1178. Tracing its roots back to the Roman era, Albert was once named Anchor to commemorate the influential adventurer Concini. It was King Louis XIII who rechristened the town as Albert, paying tribute to his esteemed confidant Charles d’Albert, the grand falconer and the Duc de Luynes. Positioned along the Route of Invasions, Albert has weathered seven significant devastations, notably including the tumults of the First World War.
