Saint-Leu district of Amiens

Visit the House of Jules Verne

Situated on Charles-Dubois Street in Amiens, the Jules Verne house now houses a museum that shows the life and work of the author of more than 30 novels in his lifetime.

The Jules-Verne International Center developed the ‘Maison de Jules Verne’ from 2000 to 2010. Closed on March 31st 2005 for restoration, it reopened its doors on March 28th 2006 and celebrated the 101 years since Jules Verne’s death. More than 700 objects that belonged to the author of the ‘Mysterious Island’, ‘Travel to the Center of the Earth’ and the creator of ‘Captain Nemo’ will be presented to you during the visit of this museum.

Floating Gardens Park

Set of floating gardens, also known as Hortillonnages, this garden extends over 300 hectares and offers walks for family escapes. The Association for the protection and safeguarding of the site and the hortillonnages environment takes care of these places. This association ensures the maintenance of the ditches, the reinforcement of the banks and the pruning of the trees without ever distorting the landscape which will have earned its gardens to be inscribed in the list of French monuments.

Tour Perret

The Building facing the Nord Station, this tower is built of reinforced concrete, one of the first and most famous. 104 meters high with 27 floors, the tower was one of the largest in the world and in Western Europe. It’s been part of the French historical monuments list since 1975.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

One of the largest cathedrals in France in terms of volume, it has been a French historical monument since 1862. With a classical Gothic architecture, this cathedral was built in the 4th century, when Amiens had an important Christian community led by its bishop. 145m long, 42m high and a total volume of 200,000 m3, this cathedral was one of the largest buildings ever built.
