Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral is located on the Place du Parvis Notre Dame in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It located in the eastern part of the Ile de la Cité. It is attached to the Archdiocese of Paris. The dominant construction of this cathedral is the Gothic style. Construction began in 1163 and ended in 1345. It is classified as a historic monument in 1862 under World Heritage 1991.It  is accessible by the metro station Cité , the metro station Chatelet and Les Halles RER  as well as many bus lines.

Notre Dame de Paris cathedral was built over a period of two hundred years and this is why its varied style. It  has two Gothic styles: original and radiant. It is one of the largest cathedrals in the West. It was subsequently destroyed during the Revolution. Rehabilitation works have been made to the cathedral between 1844 and 1864. These restorations were carried out by the architect Viollet-le-Duc. He added details that were not originally in the building.

Notre Dame Cathedral in  Paris stands on the spot where a pagan Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter was . This presence is proved by the discovery of pillars at this location. This old building is then substituted by a huge basilica dedicated to St. Stephen resembling civil basilicas of antiquity. It is assumed that this building was built in the 4th century and renovated in the 7th century. Religious institutions have succeeded on the site of the cathedral before building it. A strong increase of the population of Paris grew to build a great cathedral. The construction project of this enormous building is decided by the bishop Maurice de Sully in 1160, because in that time the city of Paris was under the direction of a bishop. Work began during the reign of Louis VII.

Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral differs from other religious buildings for its size. It has 5500 square meters of total area with 127 meters long and 48 meters wide. It has 113 windows and 75 columns.
