The façades are uniformly designed, featuring a regular series of spans supported by architectural squares, each concluding with a base and a pediment. Corinthian pilasters adorn all four sides, contributing to the castle’s harmonious appearance. In total, Château Boulayes boasts 42 spans across 38 key pillars: thirteen on the main façade and six on the lateral elevations. A medieval central projection on the façades has been refined into a slender protrusion, marking a five-bay front building crowned by a gable. The castle’s apertures include arched doors on the ground floor and cross-shaped, rectangular windows on the first floor. The interior preserves its original charm, featuring a dining room with paneled walls topped by classical statues. The castle’s layout includes a central portico and maintains a spacious courtyard, original stone details, and an exquisite wrought-iron fence. Additionally, Château Boulayes is complemented by a park, garden, and dovecote, collectively referred to as the “gatehouse.”

Château Boulayes, also known as “Boullayes Castle,” was inspired by the architectural plan of the Hôtel Thun, constructed in 1771 by Etienne-Louis Boullée. Its erection spanned from January to December 1785, under the guidance of the renowned architect Claude-Nicolas Girardin, a disciple of Boullée and a favorite of Madame du Barry. The castle’s neoclassical design was a tribute to Claude Bélanger, a Colonel in the King’s bodyguards. Previously, the site housed a dwelling encircled by stagnant waters. Thanks to his wife’s fortune, Claude Bélanger financed the construction, entrusting Girardin with the task of replacing the old residence with a modern château. During the revolution, Bélanger fled the country, resulting in the seizure of the castle. After changing hands among various owners, it was eventually declared national property. A modest renovation in 1912 saw the replacement of the original roofing structures. The park of Château Boulayes, developed between 1877 and 1785, is recognized as part of the cultural heritage inventory.
