History of Eragny
The known history of the town of Eragny begins in the 12th century when these lands belonged to the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Martin-des-Champs. The village is located on the north-facing cliff overlooking the Oise. In 1564, Jean d'Alesso bought the seigneury and his descendants did not stop expanding their domain in the town. It was in the 18th century, the village was mainly concentrated on the hillside. The rest of the territory was devoted to crops, vines and wood. In the following century, the few inhabitants lived mainly from agriculture and market gardening. However, in the 20th century, the city industrialized with the construction of a railway and a stationery, hence the boom in economic growth. Witness to the last two wars, but especially to the second, the church was destroyed in June 1944 by the fall of an English Lancaster bomber plane. It became a city in the sixties and took on its present form less than twenty years later with its approximately 16,000 inhabitants. You can go to Éragny during your airport trips.
