History of Vésinet
Mentioned for the first time in a 704 charter by King Childebert III, Le Vésinet was ceded at the time to the monks of Fontenelle Abbey, which became Saint-Wandrille. Considered to be a royal hunting forest, its true history begins in the 19th century, during the Second Empire. Part of this forest was cleared in 1816 and served as a maneuvering ground for bodyguard regiments stationed at St Germain en Laye. Become autonomous municipality in 1875, its founder Alphonse Pallu was the first Mayor. Since then, the city has experienced meteoric development as demonstrated by the inauguration of various infrastructures such as the new Paris-Saint-Lazare to Pecq railway line, the so-called "atmospheric" train or even the Vésinet station. In the 20th century, the city remained witness to the last two world wars by being bombed. But it was able to rebuild itself after the war and devoted itself to the beautification of lakes, rivers, lawns, green flows and other public green spaces.
