About the rich history of Austerlitz train station, also called Gare d’Orléans

The Austerlitz station's shipyards began in 1837 and were inaugurated three years later. Since 1867, passenger services have been reorganized to ensure better reception for the thousands of people who use the station. The fore-station, which stretches for several kilometers between Paris-Austerlitz and Ivry-sur-Seine, has various construction sites, including training and storage beams for passenger trains. This area, already partially affected by the establishment of the François-Mitterrand library, is part of a vast urban development project called Paris Rive Gauche.

The Austerlitz train station is located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris municipality, at 85 Quai d'Austerlitz, 75013 Paris. It is owned and operated by the SNCF, and its official opening date is September 20, 1840, while the underground tracks have been operational since March 3, 1969. The Paris-Austerlitz station was formerly called Gare d'Orléans and is one of the six main terminus stations of the SNCF in Paris. It is situated on the left bank of the Seine, near the Salpêtrière hospital.
