History and visit of Dragon Street in Paris
Dragon Street is in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, situated in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. The street starts at 163 Boulevard Saint-Germain and concludes at No. 2 rue de Grenelle and No. 56 rue du Four. Spanning 215 meters, its width was standardized at 12 meters by a royal decree on April 29, 1839. Initially called Sepulchre Street, it was renamed in 1808 after locals petitioned for the change, which was duly approved. It was renamed in honor of a carved dragon that adorns the door of No. 50, rue de Rennes. Another bronze dragon is located at the corner of Dragon Street and rue de Grenelle. The street has been home to several notable figures: at No. 8 lived French actor-director Laurent Terzieff, who was also acclaimed for his theatre work. At No. 13 resided painter, sculptor, and poet Albert Dupont. No. 14 housed the art book editions of Christian Zervos. Commemorative plaques and a statue of a dragon also make this street popular among tourists.
