History of the town of Airaines
Airaines is a French commune located in the department of the Somme and Picardy. In 1159, Renaud received in this locality the King of Jerusalem Jean Beaudouin III. This stronghold was equipped with solid defense at the same time. Therefore, the motte was replaced by a stone castle white castle named Abbey. A few years later, the Lord Airaines got the same privilege. Thus, a new fortress was born. The latter is located a few meters from the site of the former castle. In 1940, during the Battle of the Somme, the town was seriously damaged. Therefore, the market has not been spared. In 1970 the city has absorbed the neighboring Dreuil Hamel.

Tourist places in the city worth a visit. Indeed, joining the priory church Notre-Dame rebuilt in the sixteenth century houses every year exhibitions of contemporary art.
