Rue des Saussaies is a street belonging to the 8th arrondissement of the French capital. It begins at Place Beauvau and ends at Place des Saussaies. It measures 146 meters in length. The creation of this street was made in the 17th century. Previously, it was called Chemin des Carrières, Chemin des Saussaye, Chemin de la Couldraye and Ruelle Baudet before being named Rue des Saussaies in 1837. Formerly, the rue des Saussaies which was known as the chemin des Carrières led to many quarries. When these quarries were no longer in use, vegetation took place with trees such as hazelnuts and willows. Private mansions began to settle on this street around the middle of the 18th century. The minimum width of this street was set at 9 meters following a ministerial decision. This width was increased to 10 meters following a royal decree dated November 21, 1837. The building at number 11 on this street was the headquarters of the German security police in 1940. Currently this building houses the general management of the French National Police.
