This street already existed in the seventeenth century. The path of oxen was the name given to the area between the Avenue de Saint-Ouen and St. Creek, on the west side. This lasted until boulevard Bessières. The entire path of oxen was called Marcadet Street in 1856. The origin of the name comes from a locality called Mercade, from the Latin word which means a Mercadius market. The Mercade was implanted near the church of Saint-Denys de la Chapelle. In 1863, the party crossed the bridge Marcadet took the name Ordener street. In 1890, the party lasted on the Avenue de Saint-Ouen was sectioned Marcadet street and took the name of the street of Jonquière.

Marcadet street once inclosed the great mansions such as hotel Labat that situation at No. 71. It changed hands several times during the eighteenth century.
