History and visit the Parc de la Villette
Located in France, in the city of Paris in the 19th arrondissement, Parc de la Villette covers an area of 55 ha. It officially became one of the most beautiful and one of the most visited parks in the capital of France since its inauguration in 1979. It was installed on the site of the largest slaughterhouses created following the decision of Napoleon III in 1867 Villette. Following the sad events, the park was completely destroyed in 1974 and rebuilt again in 1979. Its full extent, the Park has single-handedly, 33 green spaces. North Park, we encounter the Porte de la Villette is located in the district of La Villette and south, there is the Porte de Pantin and the middle of the park, there is the Canal de l’Ourcq.
When de la Villette slaughterhouses ceased operations on 15 March 1976 the Government Messmer began to establish its development plans. At this point, build a park was still off topic, the government was more direction to the construction of new residential buildings. L’Atelier Parisien or APUR Urbanism had then set up a kind of competition where participants had to come up with an innovative idea for the future of the old place de la Villette slaughterhouses. And finally, July 13, 1979, the EPPV was created and the choice was made, a park would be created. The project to build a park and museum slowly took shape under the direction of President Giscard. The project continues to move even after the accession of the left to power following the presidential election in 1981.
Some time later, it was decided that the Park will also house within its walls a city of music and a museum of science and technology. During the design competition launched by APUR April 8, 1982, it was decided that the park would not closing and it would be available day or night for those who wanted to visit. It should be noted that 805 groups have registered for the competition, they were not all French insofar as there were more than forty participating countries. The project was international. Hundreds of ideas were received, just as different from each other. The competition was conducted by juries who were architects (Vittorio Gregotti and Renzo Piano), landscape (Peter Dauvergne and Paul Friedberg) politicians (FrançoisBarré Robert and Simone), a sculptor, a sociologist, a biologist, but also a painter . The set was quite able to name the eventual winner, because all the elements contributing to the smooth running of the contest were present and no conflict was on the horizon.
Of all the ideas that have been received, only nine were able to meet the requirements of the jury and it was decided on 25 March 1983 that it would be Bernard Tschumi lead the project. The Park was a huge success, the centerpiece being the Grande Halle de la Villette, there is also the Geode, the City of music, outdoor cinemas are projected summer, Zenith Paris, Cinaxe, the Trabendo, the Cabaret Sauvage, the Argonaut, and more are in the park. The Parc de la Villette is a huge cultural heritage and has always given this unparalleled authenticity to the city of Paris.
