History of the town of Louhans in Burgundy
Louhans, situated in the scenic region of Burgundy, is one of the communes of France found in the department of Saône-et-Loire. In the thirteenth century, this town rose to prominence when it became a pivotal center of commercial redistribution between Champagne and the Jura. By the legislation known as the Marcellin law, Louhans underwent a merger with surrounding municipalities such as Branges, Chateaurenaud, and Sornay in 1973. This merged entity was named Louhans, but Branges and Sornay separated just a few years later. Subsequently, in 2012, a union of Louhans and Chateaurenaud occurred, leading to the dissolution of Chateaurenaud as a separate commune and the new town being christened as Louhans-Chateaurenaud.
