History and Visit of Rue Jardinet in Paris
Established in the 13th century, Rue Jardinet is a significant lane in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. Situated in the Mint district, it begins at Cour de Rohan and ends at No. 12 rue de l’Eperon. The street stretches for 80 meters and has a width of 10 meters, as set by the Royal Decree of August 22, 1840. Previously, this lane was known as Rue Mignon and later Rue Hautefeuille. Its extension was named Rue des Petits-Champs. It has also been known by other names such as Rue de Escureul and Rue Escureux. Its current name originates from Jaillot’s garden, which was part of Hotel de Vendome, situated between this street and Rue Danton. Rue Jardinet holds numerous historical memories. No. 2 and No. 4 belonged to the Cute College. René Maupeou, who purchased No. 4 in 1690, was a president of parliament. He bought it from Leboutz, the master of requests. The Leboutz family had acquired it from the Gobelin family twenty years earlier. No. 3 was owned by Gibert, and No. 9 and No. 41 belonged to Marquise Houartigny. Notably, the famous Camille Saint-Saëns was born at No. 3 on October 9, 1835. He was a French pianist, organist, and post-romantic composer, renowned for works like twelve operas, the most famous of which is Samson and Delilah from 1877, numerous oratorios, five symphonies, five piano concertos, three violin concertos, and two cello concertos.
