Street Cambacérès is a street belonging to the 8th arrondissement of the French capital. It begins at the Place des Saussaies and ends at the Rue La Boétie. It was created in 1865. Previously, it had other names such as rue du Chemin Vert, rue de la Ville l´Évêque and rue Berthollet. The rue Cambacérès was part of the rue de la ville 1’Evêque. It was separated from this street in 1865. The part between the rue de Penthièvre and the rue des Saussaies was called rue du Chemin Vert. This section already existed on a plan drawn by Jouvin de Rochefort in 1672. The name it currently bears was given in homage to Jean Jacques Régis de Cambacérès. The rue Cambacérès is home to buildings belonging to the Ministry of the Interior. Emmanuel Chabrier, the composer worked in this building from 1861 to 1880. The member of the Comédie-Française Raphaël Duflos was killed on January 21, 1946 at number 12 of this street. A plaque in his memory is located on this street. It also housed buildings now destroyed, such as the hotels located at numbers 8 and 14 of this street, as well as Alphonse de Lamartine’s dwelling house. Engineer and industrialist Ernest Goüin resided on this street.
